Christ Church, Atlanta, GA (PCA)
Christ Church began running Christianity Explored a couple of years ago, and they offer it twice each year. Participation has varied from 6 to 20 people. They have modified the course into an 8-week course to better fit their schedule.
The church leadership promotes Christianity Explored mostly within the church, encouraging church people to invite friends. When members invite their friends, they come with them to the course. The participants range from mature believers, to those who are new to the faith and have questions, to non-Christian inquirers who want a safe place to ask questions and to find out what Christianity is all about.
Associate Pastor Pete Jackson said, “We have seen fruit from every time we have run the course, at least one person coming to faith in Christ each time.” Jackson explained the key to getting the course started, “The Pastor and church leadership got behind it and promoted it from the front.” His advice to a church considering Christianity Explored, “Just go out and do it. So often we just talk about doing things like this but don’t do it. Get the material and learn it, then go do it.”
Christ Church plans to run the course again this fall. Here is the description on the church’s website:
Are you investigating Christianity for the first time or wanting to review the heart of the faith? Then join Dr. Paul Gardner for a special 8 – week evening series that explores the person and the work of Jesus using the gospel of Mark. We’ll share a meal together each week and include plenty of time for questions and open discussion.
