The church’s former pastor, Steve Smallman, reports that the real legwork of implementing Christianity Explored was done by Bob Willetts, the Associate Pastor at the time. The first thing Bob did was to teach Christianity Explored as an adult SS class. Each class he showed the DVD (which everyone enjoyed very much) and then divided the class into smaller groups to role play the discussion questions with unbelievers (although there were also some seekers in this class).

The next step was to recruit people to do the cooking, host for the tables, etc. With an understanding of what the course could do, we found that people were willing to have a
part in the ministry.

The first time around I think we had about four tables, with a number of people who were not believers. We were encouraged by the response and saw at least one solid conversion.

The second time we had become involved with a ministry to Albanians and most of the group who attended were Albanian. That set up a different dynamic, with the talks needing to be translated and communicated to a group of people with no knowledge
at all of Scripture or basic Christian thinking. The class served as a wonderful introduction to Jesus, and there has been follow up through ESL classes and other means.

Smallman concludes, “I think our experience so far has been that Christianity Explored is a very good way to give out the gospel in a setting that allows easy conversation. The
introductory training is good, but the best learning comes through experience.” Smallman also commented on the fact that there is never a convenient time to implement something like this, there are always competing demands, but at some point you have to decide to do it.
